Privacy
What we store
There is no account, no login and no email address, so there is very little to tell you. This page is the whole of it, in plain words.
No account, no name
We never ask who you are. We do not have your name, your email address or a password, because there is nothing here to log in to.
What sits in your browser
Your streaks, your stats, your half-finished puzzles, your light or dark preference and your answer to the ads question are all kept in this browser’s local storage, on this device. Clearing site data for hunch.games deletes all of it, and none of it follows you to another browser or another phone.
One of those values is a random identifier, generated in your browser the first time you finish a puzzle. It is a random string and nothing else: it is not derived from your device, your address or anything about you, and it is not linked to any other identifier we hold. Its only job is to stop one person’s answer being counted twice in the same puzzle.
What leaves your device
When you finish a puzzle we send your answer, the puzzle number and that random identifier to our server. That is what makes the “where you landed among everyone who played today” chart possible. Your own score never depends on it: every game here works out what you scored on your own device, and the crowd only ever adds the comparison.
Our server also keeps a one-way scrambled form of your network address, salted so it cannot be reversed or looked up. We use it to stop one person submitting a thousand answers and skewing the day for everyone. We do not store the address itself and we cannot recover it.
Visitor numbers
We count page views with Vercel Web Analytics, so we can see which games people actually play and whether anyone is finding the site at all. It sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device. What we get back is counts: pages viewed, rough visitor numbers, which site sent you, country, and the kind of device and browser. None of it is tied to you, to your player id, or to the answers you gave, and we cannot single you out in it.
What we do not do
We run no tracking pixels, no session recording and no fingerprinting, and we do not follow you to other sites. We do not sell or share what we hold. We do not send you email, because we do not have an address to send it to. There is no advertising cookie on this site at all: no ad network is switched on, so there is nothing to set one.
Ads
There are no ads on this site yet. The slot under your result is a promo for one of our own games. Because nothing advertising-related loads, we do not ask you about cookies: a consent dialog that protects you from nothing is just friction. If and when a real ad network is switched on, that changes, and we will ask first. Its script would only load for players who have allowed personalisation, and it may then set cookies of its own to decide which ad to show. That network would be Google AdSense, whose own privacy terms would apply to what it collects.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to how we use it. The honest complication is that we cannot identify you: the random identifier lives only in your browser, so we have no way to match a request from an email address to a row in our database. If you send us that identifier we can delete the rows carrying it. Otherwise, clearing site data in your browser is the faster and more complete version of the same thing, and it is entirely in your hands.
The legal basis for storing your results is our legitimate interest in showing every player how the crowd answered, which is the point of the games. The legal basis for anything ad-related would be your consent, which is why nothing ad-related happens today and why we will ask before it does.
Children
The games are suitable for anyone, but this is not a service aimed at children, and we ask for no personal information from anyone of any age.

This site is run by Hunch Technology, an independent project based in Oslo, Norway, which is the data controller for the little described above. The fastest way to reach a human is hello@hunch.games, and mail there is read.
